Sam's Superheroes Foundation logo on Mickleover FC's shorts

Every now and then, something happens that completely lifts my spirits and reminds me why I keep going on this journey I never imagined I’d be on.

A few months ago, I opened an email from Mickleover FC that stopped me in my tracks.

Don Amott, the club’s chairman, wanted to feature Sam’s Superheroes’ logo on this season’s home game football kit shorts completely free of charge.

Last Friday, at the first friendly game of the new season, there it was: our logo. Sam’s logo. Seeing his name on his home football club’s kit was incredibly moving.

I’m certain Sam would have been thrilled probably having a little dance in heaven. He loved the outdoors, loved sport, and was the best team player you could hope for.

Why local support matters

I’ve always believed that when local organisations back grassroots charities, amazing things can happen. The charity world can often feel dominated by large, corporate names, but sometimes the most powerful change comes from small, passionate teams driven by personal experiences.

Support like this not only raises awareness for Sam's story but also about FIRES (Febrile Infection-Related Epilepsy Syndrome), and it fuels the heart of what we do.

We are on a mission to raise £50,000 to fund vital research that could save children like Sam. Every donation, no matter how big or small, takes us a step closer to understanding this disease, improving treatments, and ultimately finding a cure.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you to Don, Neil, and everyone at Mickleover FC. Your kindness has truly made my heart sing.

Help us keep making a difference

Sam

If you’d like to stand alongside us whether through a fundraising event, a business partnership, or a one-off donation we would love to hear from you.

Your support helps fund life-saving research into FIRES and brings hope to families facing this rare and devastating condition.

FIRES and NORSE strike without warning in healthy individuals. Within hours they trigger life-threatening, relentless seizures, that are exceptionally difficult to stop.

Tragically one in five children do not survive the acute stage. Researchers believe these seizures are triggered by a virus that causes a rare and abnormal immune or inflammatory response in the brain.

Together, we can keep Sam’s legacy alive and drive real change.
